It is about time I did this, but hey, better late than never. This is a very cool site! Markeroni has made hunting for markers and landmarks so much more fun. Why do you ask? I used to do this sort of thing at another type of landmark hunting site, but they require you to write a book every time you discover something. Not only that, but you have to meet the EXACT requirements (sometime gramatical requirements) to log a find. That kind of thing made landmark hunting frustrating.
Markeroni has put a new spin on this ( I do not have to write a book) and made this a fun thing to do. When I travel, I look forward to finding markers and landmarks, as I did when I visited Savannah, Ga in August 2006, and most recently Pennsylvania (which by the way was virtually free of any snarfs in the southeastern part of the state). I have learned a great deal of history using this site, and I highly recommend this 'sport' to any and all that have a taste for history and adventure. Remember, we are bringing the history we find to life so that others may enjoy it as much as we do. -Sketcher1

This is my third season playing Markeroni Challenge.

All ready this year I have learned about some really neat local historic things that I had no idea about until we visited a historical sign listed in the resources.

Meadowncroft is a 16,000 year old archelogical site located with 50 miles from my home. Who knew?

Thanks to Markeroni I'm learning more and more about the area we are living in.

I have had a bunch of fun and learned so much about other areas from this website. Actually I had already begun to collect pictures of historical markers before my wife found this site. I was pleasantly surprised to find that others shared my interest in history and how it is preserved in the form of markers and other types of monuments. Thank you for making this site available for all of us markeroons. The stars are cool too!

Thanks for setting up this site and creating a new hobby. No longer will I drive past markers and wonder later if there was something interesting I could have learned.

Seeking snarfs has gotten me out of the house during the most beautiful time of the year -- it's fun and somewhat addictive!

My husband and I moved to WV 7 years ago.

I 'found' out about Markeroni this past July.

My brother and I were taught by our father at very early ages to take the time to stop and read the historical road signs.

Once I started visiting the WV signs, I began to learn about the history of this area played an very important part during the Indian Wars in establishing this country.

I am currently trying to locate a historical map of the local forts of this area to gain a better prespective of the historical battles fought in this area.

Markeroni is my newest obsession. It fits very well with several of my other hobbies -- BookCrossing and travel.

It also adds a whole new fun element to car trips that might otherwise be dreary. It is so much fun to plan routes, many off the beaten path, that allow us to visit as many landmarks as we can on the way to our destination. And I'm getting an education to boot!

The fun will only increase when more of my fellow Canadians join in on the action.

Greetings, fellow Markeroons :-)

I just wanted to drop a quick line to say how much I'm enjoying Markeroni...

It's truly the most entertaining new hobby I've picked up in some time, and combines a lot of my favorite things, like road trips, history, fun photos, and a virtual world where other people think those things are fun, too :-)

Thanks for envisioning such a world, White Raven :-)

To celebrate my new obsession, I've joined the Markeroni Challenge... and have only one question... do I HAVE to WAIT until the official day? OK, just kidding... I won't jump the gun... and will have my mascot ready to go, come the first of February!!!

Happy snarfing, all :-)

Just recently I visited the town I grew up in, and had some free time, so my husband and I went marker-snarfing. Not only was it great fun, I learned a lot of stuff about the town I never had known before -- and never would have learned if I hadn't joined Markeroni. Great Fun!!!!

So far I have had a blast with Markeroni! I had not realized how much I would enjoy finding out the history of my state even during the research
phase of finding the markers. In the few short weeks I have learned more about the early settlers and explorers of Mississippi than I had experienced in a lifetime of daily living.

I also have gained a new appreciation for living in the capital city. I have passed markers all of my life and barely noticed them. Markeroni made me stop and read them. Now I appreciate both the site and the people who cared enough to commemorate it.

Makes every drive an adventure!

Great fun! I've always been fascinated by historical markers, and now there's a good excuse to stop & look at them :-)

I am having a lot of fun with this. It's great to watch people snarfing landmarks and generally enjoying themselves and going to new places!
