Home : Resources : Resources : The Basics

What This Is

  1. At Markeroni, while we do provide lists of landmarks and markers "à la carte", our lists are not intended as a definitive guide to these resources.

  2. Why? Not all landmark and marker systems are easily available, online or elsewhere; additionally, if you do your own homework, you can arrange the data in a format with which you feel comfortable.

  3. Our intention is that this area, "Resources", should be used as the basis of your landmark-hunting. We point you at online resources and guide books for landmarks at the city, county, state/province and national level.

  4. From experience, we have concluded that nothing you find online can replace an actual with-you-in-your-backpack guide book. Hence, where one exists, we have included it here in Resources.

How To Use Resources

  1. Choose the country you need: Australia, the USA, Canada, or the British Isles.

  2. Pick the state, province or country you want and click through.

  3. You will see links and resources about the region you are interested in:

    1. Types of Landmark: Background-information links and information about landmark types.

    2. Lists of Landmarks Provided: Name of list, Markeroni list code, and status (what information is entered at Markeroni, links to specific lists where available)

    3. What Information to Expect: Summary of where we are at with that region, what remains undone, etc.

    4. Guide Book: if there is one, its details are here

    5. Historical Preservation: Which organizations are doing preservation locally.

    6. Links: Resources for landmark-hunting and preservation.

  4. Use these links to research what is in your area, to find out what is near you, and to find out about historical preservation in your area.

  5. Visit the landmarks or historical markers, then come back to the Markeroni member area to log them.
