What information about historical markers and landmarks to expect for New York, USA

There was once an "official" state-wide marker system in New York, but it stopped in 1966. However, individual groups now are able to add their own markers, and the State Museum acts as a clearinghouse and advisory board for such markers.

There is a listing of markers on the Museum site. There are no dates, so once we enter a county, there's no realistic way for us to know what has been added since then. We suggest that once a county has been added, that if you find extra markers, then simply request them one at a time.

There is a state register of historic places, but there seems to be no listing online. At this time, we don't include it.

We will input the National Register properties according to which county you live in, so please be sure to request that the county you live in be added.

If you come across a local historical marker or historic landmark program, please do let us know!
