Introduction

Several groupings of landmarks in USA are "thematic": that is, not restricted to a specific state. Technically speaking, some of the lists that repeat themselves in each state should also be "thematic", but they are so large that we thought it better to simply split them up geographically.

General Information

Each state has its own resources page with information specific to that area.

At Markeroni, the term "county" means "independent city, parish, borough, county or whatever other designation is appropriate". It's not the correct term, but it saves a lot of typing.

Towns and areas often have their own local plaque or landmark systems. We can add them, but we need you to provide the information in the form of a web link. We currently do not have enough resources to do all the research ourselves. Otherwise, we can only add such landmarks as "wildcards", and only if they have plaques.

Not all National Register sites have plaques. If you can find a site that we list or count, you may log it.

Landmark-hunting is not an exact science and you might find that there are listed places which don't exist, should be removed because they're sensitive, private or archaeological, etc. Please just contact us and let us know if you find something like this.

Don't forget that you can include most monuments, statues and memorials as long as they give a bit of history and aren't just a simple "In Memoriam". You can also include war memorials and museums. However, in the absence of a master list, you'll need to request each one individually via the request form in the Journals project.
