What information about historical markers and landmarks to expect for Virginia, USA

Virginia's marker system is one of the oldest in the country, and at 2,000 or so markers is also one of the largest. A searchable database of information is available online. An excellent secondary resource is the private site in our Links area, below. A guide book (published 1007) also covers the state.

We have entered every state marker that we can find. If you find one that we have not yet included, please request it individually and be sure to include the number on the sign. If you find that a marker has been replaced and has a new title, please let us know with a help request.

Virginia also has a state register, the Virginia Landmarks register. These landmarks can be added one county or independent city at a time, as can those in the National Register.
